CivicVault is a verified-membership platform. This page explains what is collected, who reviews it, and what it does — and does not — mean.
You provide your name, email, country, professional category, optional organization, an optional professional biography and credentials. Journalists and independent reporters may submit publicly available professional links (LinkedIn, published articles, portfolios).
Categories: Journalist, Independent Reporter, Human Rights Defender, Activist, Researcher, or Other Eligible Professional. Alternative verification paths exist for independent journalists and activists lacking institutional credentials — professional links and references count.
Today, a human administrator reviews your professional evidence. Where an automated identity-verification provider is configured, it confirms you are a real person without exposing identity documents to CivicVault staff. Legal identity data is kept separate from your public profile and follows a documented retention/deletion policy.
Statuses: Pending Review → Verified / Additional Information Required / Rejected. A documented appeal process exists. Error messages never reveal sensitive verification details; the process is rate-limited against automated abuse.
MFA is required. Passkeys and hardware security keys are supported on the roadmap. You receive notifications for new devices and important security events.
Verification establishes an identity or eligibility claim. It does not guarantee that every statement a member makes is truthful. Verification never gives other members access to your legal identity.
